My name is Britta Oberste-Dommes, I am a qualified psychotherapist working in the inner city of Aachen.

Psychotherapy

Whether you experience difficulties such as anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive behaviours or you are feeling lost, low or stuck, therapy is an approach which can help you to understand the cause of these difficulties and to find ways to manage these.

My approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Each client’s situation is unique and I tailor my approach based on your individual needs. This may involve drawing from other modalities such as psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness and relaxation. Beyond the therapeutic modality I believe that the most important factor for effective therapy is the relationship between the therapist and the client.  It is within an authentic, open and non-judgemental relationship that changes can occur.

Counselling and Coaching

If you are trying to reach a personal or professional goal, counselling and coaching offers training and guidance in doing so. It is a thought-provoking and creative process to maximise your personal and professional potential. I use a variety of behavioural techniques and methods.

Stress management and relaxation techniques

Stress affects us all and most of us have experienced stressful times in our lives. While a little stress usually make us more efficient, a lot of stress and chronic stress may have serious effects on our body and mind such as sleeping disorders, mood changes or high blood pressure.

I use a variety of techniques to help you reduce stress and find solutions.

What I’m often asked about therapy

It is impossible to answer these questions in general. We all face  challenging situations throughout our lives.

Often support from friends and family help us to manage these challenges. However, sometimes these situations are too overwhelming and require the guidance of a professional.

During the first appointment we will discuss the issues you are facing and together we will determine the best course of action for you.

Usually no longer than one or two weeks.

Yes. If you have a health insurance policy, it will usually provide some coverage for mental health treatment. I will fill out forms and provide you with whatever assistance I can in helping you receive the benefits to which you are entitled; however, you (not your insurance company) are responsible for full payment of my fees. It is very important that you find out exactly what mental health services your insurance policy covers.

The number and frequency of sessions vary depending on the issues you would like to address. After  a few sessions I’m usually able to estimate how many are needed.
